Who can apply for Nacionalización Calificada?

⦁    Permanent residents who can certify two years of continuous residence in national territory.

⦁    Those who have been the spouse of a Chilean citizen for at least two years and whose marriage is registered in Chile may apply for nacionalización. This as long as the the right and duty to live in the common household is fulfilled during this period, unless one of them has serious reasons for not doing so.

⦁    Relatives of Chilean citizens by blood up to and including the second degree and those adopted by Chileans may apply for nacionalización.

⦁    If you are the son or daughter of a father or mother who, having been Chilean, has lost the Chilean nationality before the applicant's birth, may apply for nacionalización.

STEP 1

The application for the Carta de Nacionalización can be completed at tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl, logging in with ClaveÚnica or creating an account at the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones.

STEP 2

This step is very important, since some recommendations are given to proceed with the procedure. You must also accept the terms and conditions where you certify that the information provided are completely true. Then you must click on "Siguiente".

STEP 3

In this section select if you are:

⦁    Adult (over 18 of age)

⦁    If the application is for a minor between 14 and 17 years of age.

⦁    If you are a minor under 18 years of age and a child of a refugee with a naturalized parent.

STEP 4

Enter your personal information

⦁    Date of birth

⦁    Sex

⦁    Country of birth (This refers to the country where you were born).

⦁    Current nationality (Refers to the nationality of your current passport).

STEP 5

In this section you must select if you entered Chile as a minor, your marital status and then click on "Siguiente".

IMPORTANT: Consider the date of entry to the country indicated in your first visa.

STEP 6

In this step, you must indicate if you have traveled to your country of origin being of legal age. If the answer is "YES" you must indicate the date of entry to Chile in that first residence and attach the Background Certificate of your country of origin (remember that this document must be duly legalized or apostilled).

STEP 7

You are wondering if you have traveled to your country of origin being of legal age?

If the answer is "Yes", you must attach your Certificate of Criminal Record from your country of origin (valid, apostilled or legalized by the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile and translated when applicable). Then indicate your marital status and click "siguiente".

STEP 8

In this case, in accordance to the Nacionalización Calificada, we will select: "Mayor de edad con vínculo con Chileno, con al menos 2 años de residencia en Chile" (of legal age in a  relationship with  Chilean citizen, with at least 2 years of residence in Chile).

STEP 9

You must select the type of relationship with a Chilean citizen.

⦁    Spouse of Chilean citizen. 

⦁    Grandparent of Chilean grandchild.

⦁    Child of Chilean parent.

⦁    Grandchild of Chilean grandfather or grandmother.

⦁    Sibling of Chilean citizen.

⦁    Adopted by Chilean citizen.

⦁    Father or Mother of Chilean child.

⦁    Father or Mother with loss of nationality.

If the relationship is with "Cónyuge de Chileno" (the spouse of a Chilean citizen), the following documents must be uploaded:

⦁    Marriage Certificate registered in Chile.

⦁    Documents that certify that presently and for at least 2 years, they have shared the common home.

⦁    Birth Certificate of the Chilean spouse of the applicant or image on both sides of the valid identity card (Optional).

If the relationship is with "Abuelo de nieta o nieto de chileno" (Grandfather of granddaughter or grandson of Chilean citizen), the following documents must be uploaded:

⦁    Birth Certificate of the father or mother of the Chilean grandchild. 

⦁    Birth Certificate or document that certifies the Chilean nationality of the grandchild.

If the relationship is with  "Hijo de padre o madre chileno(a)" (Child of a Chilean father or mother), the following documents must be uploaded:

⦁    Birth Certificate of the applicant indicating the name of the parents. 

⦁    Birth certificate or document that certifies the Chilean nationality of the father or mother.

If the relationship is with "Nieto de abuelo a abuela chileno(a)" (Grandchild of a Chilean grandparent), the following documents must be uploaded:

⦁    Birth Certificate of the applicant. 

⦁    Birth Certificate of the applicant's parents. 

⦁    Birth Certificate or document that certifies the Chilean nationality of the applicant's grandfather. 

If the relationship is with "Hermano de chileno(a)" (Sibling of a Chilean citizen), the following documents must be uploaded:

⦁    Birth Certificate of the applicant. 

⦁    Birth Certifi cate of the Chilean brother or sister of the applicant.

If the type of relationship is "Adoptado por chileno" (Adopted by Chilean citizen), the following documents must be uploaded:

⦁    Document that certifies the adoption. 

⦁    Birth certificate of the adoptive parents or document that certifies their Chilean nationality. 

If the relationship is with "Padre o madre con perdida de nacionalidad" (Father or mother with loss of nationality), the following documents must be uploaded:

⦁    Birth Certificate of the applicant. 

⦁    Birth certificate with loss of nationality of the applicant's parents.

After selecting and uploading the requested documents, click "Siguiente".

STEP 10

In this step, you must enter the contact information. Be sure to enter an email address that you use regularly as you will be notified by email.

⦁    Region and comuna where you live in Chile.

⦁    Street and number.

⦁    Apartment (Optional if applicable).

⦁    Cell phone number.

⦁    Email address.

STEP 11

In this section, enter the following information:

⦁    Activity to be performed in Chile.

⦁    Profession or occupation.

⦁    Name of the institution and/or company where you will perform your activities (Optional).

⦁    If you have a property in Chile (home).

If your activity is: Entrepreneur or Employer, Self-employed, Annuitant.

You must upload the following documents: 

⦁    Document that certifies the activity that you will perform in Chile.

⦁    Certificate from Servicio de Impuestos Internos (Internal Revenue Service) certifying that you are up-to-date in the payment of your tax obligations.

If your activity is being Employee, Worker or day laborer, Domestic Employee, Homeowner, Student, Retired or pensioner, Inactive, Other activities, Religious, Crew member, you must upload:

⦁    Document that certifies activity performed in Chile. 

STEP 12

Enter your passport information:

Upload the scanned image of the identification sheet.

Passport identification number.

Passport issuing country. 

Date of the visa that gave rise to the current Permanencia Definitiva.

Then click on "Siguiente".

If you do not have a passport, you must upload the image of your national identity card or consular certificate indicating your identity and nationality. 

STEP 13

In this step, you must upload your valid Chilean Identity Card on both sides. STEP 14

Click on "Finalizar" to send the form to the first analysis stage. 

STEP 15

A notification and proof of submission of your Nacionalización will be sent to the email address declared at the time of your application.
